Sol Quixote
Once upon a time, Don Quixote set forth across the Spanish countryside to demonstrate by example the value of chivalry. The practicality of his sallies remains disputed to this day, but his commitment and determination is not. Don Quixote believed in chivalry and refused to allow excuses like lethargic horses, illiterate squires, or lavatory armor stand in the way.
I have long claimed to care about sustainability but validated inaction with far smaller impediments than Don Quixote overcame. Rather than continuing to blame everyone else for delaying the conversion to renewable energy and resources, it’s high time for me to do my part – ready or not.
Despite holding a Ph.D. in materials science, it’s still hard to identify how best to help. We can all envision the end goal, both personally and globally, but the path from here to there is unclear. Searching for my and others’ place in that process is the purpose of this blog. Like Don Quixote, I am not qualified for the task, but the effort may still uncover questions and insights that haven’t yet been considered.
I hope to encourage an active community to join me on this journey, because while no single person has all the answers, we can each offer unique ideas and observations from our personal histories that would take a lifetime for another to independently learn.
